Behaviour and Support

  • Behaviour and Support

This article explains how Content Restrictions behaves on the storefront, how to disable the app, and how to get help.

    What shoppers see

When a visitor opens a URL that matches an enabled rule:

    1. The app hides the page content.
    2. A password prompt appears.
    3. A correct password unlocks that rule in the browser until the configured unlock time expires.
    4. A wrong password shows the configured Wrong Password Message. The shopper can try again.

Unlock access is stored in the shopper’s browser for that rule. It does not create a BigCommerce customer login.

    Important limits

    • There is no maximum number of URL restriction rules or passwords per store.
    • Each store can have only one rule per URL path. The same password can be used on many rules.
    • Each password can be up to 255 characters.
    • Protection runs through the installed storefront script. It deters casual browsing. It is not absolute access control.
    • Users who bypass JavaScript or call storefront APIs directly may still reach content.
    • If the app API is unavailable, the storefront leaves the page unlocked so shoppers are not blocked by a temporary connection problem.

    Disable the app

Use this when you need to stop all password prompts.

    1. Open Advanced Settings.
    2. Turn on Disable App Completely.
    3. Select Save Changes.
    4. Optionally use Enable for IPs when disabled so selected IP addresses still see app behaviour for testing or support.

General Settings also includes Disable App Completely under Content Restriction Defaults. Turn the setting off in both places if password prompts do not appear.

    Subscription and billing

Content Restrictions is billed as USD 89 per month per store. New installs include a 14-day free trial. After the trial, subscribe from the Subscription screen. Stripe then charges the monthly fee automatically.

Use Login to billing Dashboard on the Subscription screen to manage the payment method.

If a trial or subscription expires:

    • Admin changes to content restrictions may be blocked until billing is fixed.
    • Existing storefront locks are intended to keep working so restricted pages are not exposed.

    Troubleshooting checklist

    Problem What to check
No password prompt Select Install / Refresh Script. Confirm the rule is Enabled. Confirm the URL path matches. Confirm the channel is included. Confirm Disable App Completely is off.
Prompt on the wrong page Check the URL Pattern and wildcards. Check Inherit Parent Path Password.
Product page not locked Add a rule for the product URL. A category rule alone does not lock separate product paths.
Password rejected Confirm the password on the rule. Check for a more specific child rule with a different password. If many attempts were made, wait one minute and try again.
Changes not saving Check subscription or trial status on the Subscription screen.
